By I’m sure many of you reading this are just as confused as I was about what to get your unofficial boyfriend for his birthday. I honestly had no idea where to begin, and I’m sure you have many questions too.
Is it better to give him a heartfelt gift that shows that you care about him even though you’re not together? Or should you go with a gift that gives him the hint that you’d like to be his official girlfriend? Check out some of the gift ideas below.
1. Tickets to a Hockey Game
This one is for all you girls out there who are still on the fence about whether your boyfriend wants you to become official. If you’re like me and are just a little too shy to sit down and ask him whether or not he wants a girlfriend, this gift is perfect for you!
Hockey tickets should be cheap because they usually aren’t the most popular sport. Give your bae these amazing seats that he can invite his friends or other girls to, so that way if you don’t become his girlfriend, it won’t seem weird when he has another girl on his arm at the game.
If you become his girlfriend this gift will look super sweet in front of all of your friends who were probably starting to wonder why the two of you haven’t gotten together yet since everyone knows that hockey players make great boyfriends .

This is probably my favorite gift on this list because it’s so simple! Any girl could make this present right at home without spending a dime, and everyone knows how comfortable sweatshirts are! Your bae will love wearing this every day to class instead of his letterman jacket because the sleeves are always getting caught on door handles.
The only bad thing about giving this as a gift is that if you don’t become official, he may wear it when he starts seeing other girls! But if you do become his girlfriend, he won’t need to wear other girls’ sweatshirts anymore because now it’s his and only his!
3. Magnets That Spell Out “Best Friends”
It wouldn’t be nice to give an actual “best friends” necklace as a present because then you’d have to ask him whether or not he would want to make it official. So this magnet gift is perfect! You can put them all around the place where you guys hang out at, like on your locker, the fridge, the microwave at his house, and even inside his car!
In all seriousness though, this really isn’t a bad gift if you want to be official with him but don’t necessarily know how he feels. He can show off these magnets when he has other girls over so they know that you’re just friends.
I think these is a perfect idea for girls who are too shy to ask him to make it official. You can frame them together as a couple, which will leave absolutely no room for doubt that you guys are an item. There’s also plenty of space for more magnets if you ever decide to become official!

You guys already hold hands and kiss sometimes, so why not make it official with a t-shirt? If you want to be his girlfriend but don’t know how he feels about committing to someone, this is the perfect solution! It’s also really cute because if anyone asks him why he’s wearing a girl’s shirt, he can just say it’s from his girl.
Plus you might get some of your friends jealous and wish they had found someone as great as your boyfriend! I’m pretty sure these shirts aren’t allowed in some school though, so only wear them when you two are hanging out alone together.

All guys love necklaces so your bae will definitely be thankful for this gift! It doesn’t matter if you two are official or not because everyone will know that he’s off the market. This necklace is probably best suited for couples who have been together for over two years and absolutely cannot stand each other anymore.
6. A Stuffed Animal
Boys might not be as into stuffed animals as girls, but I bet they wouldn’t mind having a giant teddy bear of their own. Plus, if you want to make sure your bae never cheats on you this is a great way to do it.
He’ll never be lonely because he can cuddle up with his plushy bear and feel safe knowing that you’re right there next to him! This would especially work well for couples who are in long-distance relationships, or if one of you lives somewhere really cold and the other doesn’t.
You can even buy a smaller stuffed animal like a dog or cat for your bae to keep in his backpack because it’ll be so cute when he takes it out to hug! And who knows, maybe within no time he’ll take the step and propose.
7. A Cake That Says “I Love You”
If your guy is the type to show off how romantic he is by writing cheesy messages and poems about love, then why not write it all over his face with this cake?! Even though this isn’t an actual pastry, I’m sure that deep down inside this gift is basically exactly like he imagined it would be. He can eat this around you, and when it’s gone all that will remain is the memory of how seriously you took his love for you.
8. A Keychain That Says “Taken”
This keychain saves your bae from ever going out with another girl again! It even comes with an extra key so he can show everyone his own little symbol of how off-limits he is. It is super special if he isn’t much to talk about himself. Just like magnets exist to remind people who have eyes that there are no women except for his girlfriend in his life, this keychain exists to do the same thing but without a risk of getting stolen.
9. A Frame for the Two of You
This is a really cute one because you can either have your picture taken together and put it in a frame, or have some sort of engraving that says “the two of us”. It doesn’t matter if you’re not yet official because I’m pretty sure he’s not going to bother asking someone else to take his photo since there’s already two people in it!
Plus, this gift tells everyone that no matter how long ago you guys were in that picture, at least one person knew you were meant to be. If he likes things like this then definitely go with this option instead of expensive gifts, it’ll mean so much more.
The only thing I’m worried about is that if your bae doesn’t like to put his photos on display, this gift will get really old pretty fast. If you’re dating someone who hasn’t taken a picture in their life or keeps all of their pictures hidden away, then don’t bother with this one because it won’t work well for them.
10. A Homemade CD with All His Favorite Songs on It
If your guy’s car only has a CD player, a homemade CD is another great gift. Just make it yourself and take out all the radio songs so he can only listen to music you like! That way if he ever gets pulled over by the cops he’ll know that they’re not listening in on his raunchy sex playlist or anything.
You could also just burn a CD of your favorite love songs and then write something really cheesy on the front like “Love Will Keep Us Together.” If you guys are already official, this gift would be perfect as an anniversary present!
11. An Oven Mitten
You can never be too confident that a man won’t burn himself while baking. But buying an oven mitten may not be the best present in this case because it is so overplayed. Bonus points if you can find a design of an oven mitt that looks like a human hand.
12. Cologne
Men’s cologne isn’t just for Christmas, it is also a great birthday gift idea, especially if you’re looking for something suitable for a man you like. If you’re not sure what scent he likes or prefers then it might be worth trying a few different types of cologne before purchasing the full bottle. You can always keep those little sample bottles for yourself once you find one that he likes.
