Getting over a relationship is hard, especially when you were the one who ruined it. However, there are many ways to get over someone you loved and lost because of your own stupidity.
1. Take a break from love
The worst thing you can do after a breakup is immediately run into another person’s arms. Get a breather from guys – maybe take a vacation or visit friends for a little while so you have time to heal and feel better about yourself before jumping back into it with somebody new.
2. Practice healthy habits
After every breakup, people tend to go on huge diets and start working out excessively in order to fill their life with something else that makes them happy instead of their ex-boyfriend or girlfriend. This is a perfectly healthy way to move on, but just make sure you’re not doing it for the wrong reasons.
3. Put yourself first
If your ex didn’t want you anymore, then they can’t be what’s best for you. This means that if someone new comes along and makes you happy, but your ex wants you back and is willing to change their ways to win you over again – don’t go back and put yourself through misery because somebody else feels sorry for you. Your happiness matters more than anyone else’s in this situation.
4. Don’t look back
Whether or not your relationship was long-term or short-term, there’s no need to constantly remind yourself of all the moments as if they were on repeat in your head. It’s time to move forward and stop looking back, even if you miss the other person.
5. Get over it
It may sound like a cliche, but getting over someone is sometimes simply about forgetting them and letting go of all the good (and bad) memories that were once attached to their name because they’re no longer important! Don’t let yourself be consumed by any past fillers that are preventing positive energy from coming into your life; let it go.
6. Love yourself
There wouldn’t have been a relationship in the first place if there wasn’t already love involved – so don’t forget to love yourself before you can truly love another person. Love will come again when you least expect it, so focus on learning to love yourself more and don’t worry about having a new lover.
7. Don’t look back
The only reason this advice is in the article twice is because it’s that important to follow! When you’re moving on from someone, looking back at their life on social media or catching glimpses of them elsewhere will only make things harder for you – don’t let anyone else apart from yourself hold you down.
8. Let go of the negative thoughts
A breakup can feel like a huge hit for your self-esteem and confidence – but try not to let these thoughts consume you and instead remind yourself every day that you are beautiful, kind, smart and deserve somebody will treat you right.
9. Get rid of items that remind you of them
When it comes to moving on, the sooner the better. If you have old clothes or other objects that remind you of your ex-lover, cut ties and donate or give away these items as soon as possible so they’re out of sight and out of mind for good! It may seem like a difficult task at first but it will be much easier than trying to adjust to life without these reminders in the long run.
10. Don’t let anyone else hold you down
When you’re ready, start dating again – but never let yourself be pushed around by another person who wants to take advantage of your sadness towards someone else. You are completely independent and need nobody else in your life to be 100% happy – don’t let anybody get between that.
11. Don’t compare yourself
After a breakup, it’s easy to look at other couples and immediately start comparing your own relationship to theirs in order to feel better about what you did wrong so your next one will come out perfectly. Stop doing this because nobody is obligated to be with another person forever! You can still enjoy being single even if someone else has a partner you think is better than yours.
12. Give yourself time
Give your heart time after every breakup – whether that means waiting for them or moving on completely, don’t rush into anything you’re not ready for just yet! It may seem like the end of the world right now, but believe in yourself and know that any relationship worth having is one you have to work hard for. So do so, but never forget to appreciate yourself before anyone else.
13. Don’t look back at their life on social media
Whether your ex is with a new lover or still single, they may use social media as a tool to post about their new happiness if it hasn’t been long since the breakup – this can be upsetting but try not to let it affect you because if these people are happy without you then why stop them from doing what makes them happy? You’re happier without them too!
14. Let go of the negative thoughts
It’s difficult not to think negatively after a breakup but every time a negative thought pops into your head, try to replace it with something positive. It may be difficult at first but it will quickly become a habit that you never want to break!
15. Don’t let anyone else apart from yourself hold you down
Remember how independent you are and what makes you so special – nobody else is allowed to keep you locked in or away from happiness because they can’t control everything about your life. You don’t need anybody but yourself, so show the world just how much of an impact you can make by standing on your own two feet!
16. Give yourself time
Give yourself as much time as possible to heal after losing someone who was once important to you; these wounds take time to mend even if the scars aren’t visible from the outside.
17. When it comes to moving on, the sooner the better
While you’re still in a relationship with somebody else is not the best time to be thinking about getting over your ex – find yourself, mend your broken heart and then when that’s complete you’ll understand why moving on was never an option for you to begin with. You just needed this time!
18. Don’t let anybody get between that
If you want to be happy again after a breakup, don’t go looking for trouble by dating too soon because all they’re going to do is remind yourself of why things didn’t work out in the first place. You need somebody who loves how independent you are and appreciates everything about your personality too.
19. Focus on you
Right now, improving yourself should be your biggest priority – nobody else is going to do that for you so don’t wait for someone else! Try learning a new language or exploring an activity that you’ve always wanted to but never had the time before.
20. Don’t let anybody hold you down
You’re better off alone than being stuck in an unhealthy relationship with somebody who tries to take advantage of how vulnerable you are right now! If they cared about your happiness, they would have tried harder to make things work between the two of you – not told you it’s over without giving them another chance first.
21. Love comes later
You don’t need somebody else in your life to prove you’re worth something – if somebody loves you, they’ll never let you go regardless of what their excuse is. Love comes later but before that, you need to love yourself first because nobody else will!
22. You are not defined by your relationship status
Even when you’re in a relationship with somebody who was once important to you, it doesn’t define everything about who you are as a person. If anything, it should make your “single” status more valuable – after all…only the strong survive!
23. Don’t look back at old photos or social media posts
Remember how bad this breakup has made you feel and how difficult moving on is without them right now? being happy again with someone else is worth the wait if they care about you too – don’t look back at old photos or social media posts because it will only bring back memories of what used to be.
24. Don’t let anybody hold you down
Remember how independent you are and what makes you so special – nobody else is allowed to keep you locked in or away from happiness because they can’t control everything about your life. You don’t need anybody but yourself, so show the world just how much of an impact you can make by standing on your own two feet!
25. Let go of the negative thoughts
It’s difficult not to think negatively after a breakup but every time a negative thought pops into your head, try to replace it with something positive instead. A great way of doing that is by listening to music!
26. Remember you are worth it
It’s easy to feel worthless after a breakup but don’t let anybody treat you like you’re replaceable – remember how special your love was while they were still in your life and how important it is for you both to be happy. You will get through this difficult time because at the end of the day, you are worth every bit of happiness!
27. Be careful on social media
If you’re trying to get over somebody who broke your heart on social media then please proceed with caution because it can be very dangerous territory when left unattended! Only use social media if all negative feelings (never post anything) and photos that remind you of them have been deleted.
28. Don’t let yourself slip into depression
It’s perfectly natural to feel sad after a breakup but if you’re feeling so down it’s starting to interfere with your daily life, talk to somebody about how you feel because nobody deserves to suffer alone! You deserve support and help so don’t hesitate in getting it when the time comes.
What do you think?
